Frequently Asked Questions: Dental Implants in Lincoln
What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is a small titanium post that is placed directly into the jaw to mimic a missing tooth root. Once it is there, it can be attached to a variety of dental restorations to replace any amount of teeth.
How do dental implants compare to traditional bridges and dentures?
While traditional bridges and dentures are excellent options for filling in the gaps in the smile, our doctors agree that dental implants are by far the most complete tooth replacement solution available today. They are the only treatment that restores both portions of a tooth above and below the gum line, halting bone loss, and they can also be trusted to last for 30 years or more. In the end, they provide the most reliable, durable, and natural-looking results of any treatment.
How many teeth can dental implants replace?
Dental implants can replace a single tooth, an entire mouthful of teeth, and everything in between. Implant-retained crowns and bridges can fill in the gaps left by one or more missing teeth, and using a few strategically placed implants, we can even give a patient a full denture they can trust to stay in place whenever they speak or eat.
What is the procedure like to get dental implants?
Once your dentist in Lincoln has determined that you are a good candidate for dental implants (more on this below), the entire procedure will involve two main phases: placement and restoration.
First, one or more implants will be placed into your jawbone via a minor surgery. The team at Pioneer Greens Dentistry, unlike most other practices, can actually perform this part of the procedure in-house to make your implant journey as smooth and easy as possible. Once it is complete, you’ll be given time to heal, during which the implant(s) will bond directly to the surrounding bone through a process call osseointegration.
After you have healed, you’ll return to our office where we will attach your new crown, bridge, or denture to your implant(s).
Does dental implant surgery hurt?
For most patients, local anesthesia is all they need to feel completely comfortable during implant placement. Our team will make a precise treatment plan so we know exactly where to position your implants while also avoiding sensitive nerves in your jaw, leading to a better experience for both doctor and patient!
Am I a good candidate for dental implants?
In order to get dental implants, a patient needs three basic things: good dental health, stable overall health, and a strong, thick jawbone. If a patient is lacking any of these requirements, this will need to be addressed before we can safely proceed with the implant procedure. Of course, we’ll be able to help you through this process if needed.
What is the cost of dental implants in Lincoln?
The cost of dental implants can vary widely from individual to individual based on a few different factors, such as how many implants a patient needs, if they require any preparatory procedures before placement, and if they have any insurance coverage. We can give you a better idea of how much your particular implant procedure will cost when you come to see us for an initial consultation. There, we can also discuss your financial options so we can choose a plan that easily fits into your budget.
